Just a quick update to share some workshops I’ll be teaching this year.
The first series of workshops will be in Kentucky, hosted by The Year of Mud, where once again I’ll be assisting Yamamoto-san of Somakosha. The Year of Mud workshops are as follows:
- Japanese Carpentry Workshop: Fundamentals (6 days) — May 23-28, 2025
- Japanese Carpentry Workshop: Intensive (6 days) — June 1-6, 2025
- Japanese Carpentry Workshop: Real Construction (6 days) — June 9-14, 2025
Later in the year I’ll also be teaching a kumiko workshop at Somakosha’s new school. For anyone not familiar, Somakosha is a traditional carpentry company here in Japan, where I worked for my first three years in Japan. They have been growing in recent years and are now opening a school to teach a variety of classes ranging from Japanese carpentry, door making, kumiko and plastering.
If you’re interested in the kumiko class here are the details:
- Fine Woodworking: Kumiko | 16th October – 22nd October (7 days)
That’s all for now.
Back soon with more on the modular tansu cabinets.
