These serving trays are constructed using solid wood panels floating in a mitered frame for stability and longevity.
The bottom panel of each tray has been textured using a Japanese adze (Chouna) giving them a truly unique texture and appearance.
Once upon a time, chouna finishes were commonplace on traditional farm houses and simple homes here in Japan. Chouna were used to smooth out the rough surface left by an axe when turning logs into post and beams for construction. I’ve been fascinated by these finishes since first seeing them on the old farmhouses at the Open-air Folk House Museum in Kawasaki. Nowadays few people still use these tools, but there are a select few who value the unique finish a chouna can give to a piece of wood.

Care Notes:
Feel free to use these trays for serving food, tea, or any other snack you prefer. Washing is best done with a light rinse of water followed by a thorough drying with a towel. Leaving water or spills on the wood for extended periods of time may discolor the wood. Osmo TopOil is quite durable but after many washes, if the surface starts to loose its shine and look dry, you may recoat the surface with a light coat of any food grade curing oil (Osmo TopOil, raw tung oil, or unboiled linseed oil are recommended).
