I’ve created a little animation to illustrate how a Chinese three-way miter joint goes together. Many variations of this joint can be found on the internet, some are better than others when it comes to strength. The joint illustrated in the video is the same as the joints that I used on each of the eight corners of my Tansu Cabinet. This joint is very strong when it is carefully cut and assembled. Also from a design point of view, a three-way miter makes for a fluid transition from vertical to horizontal members. Hope you enjoy the video!
